Conserving resources, preserving planet

Aramark's commitment to protect our natural environment guides our effort to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and risk.

Our strategy and targets

When it comes to climate, Aramark's strategy is focused on reducing GHG emissions and risk. We work with suppliers, clients, and partners to deliver solutions that meet the needs of our guests and advance our science-based targets.

Aramark’s near-term and net-zero Science Based Targets initiative-validated science-based targets

  • Aramark commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 57.1% by FY2030 from FY2019 base year.
  • Aramark commits that 62% of its suppliers by emissions covering purchased goods and services and upstream transportation and distribution will have science-based targets by FY2027.
  • Aramark commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from use of sold products 28% by FY2030 from FY2019 base year.
  • Aramark commits to reach net-zero GHG emissions across the value chain by FY2050, and commits to reduce absolute scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions 90% by FY2050 from FY2019 base year.

We also committed to reduce food emissions 25% by 2030 as part of the Coolfood Pledge and the New York City Mayor's Plant Powered Carbon Challenge.

Pathway and progress

Our pathway to achieving our targets focuses on the food we serve, the kitchens we operate, the vehicles we drive, and the suppliers we engage. We collaborate with priority suppliers regularly throughout the year, including reporting on their sustainability efforts.

Food is at the heart of our approach. We partner with clients, consumers, and suppliers to expand plant-forward menu options and bring more innovative lower-carbon proteins to the table.

In parallel, we make ongoing energy and water efficiency improvements, expand our procurement of renewable energy, integrate electric vehicles, and optimize routes throughout Aramark’s vehicle fleet.

We calculate and disclose our GHG Emissions Inventory and respond annually to CDP. CDP is a global non-profit company that runs the world’s leading environmental disclosure platform. For more information, view our reporting

Healthy, low-carbon food for people and planet

We serve and promote food choices that support both personal and planetary health. In partnership with the World Resources Institute (WRI), we certify and serve low‑carbon Coolfood meals—options that meet nutritional standards and have a carbon footprint 38% lower than the regional average. Alongside Coolfood meals, we pursue initiatives such as plant‑based‑by‑default offerings and lower‑carbon proteins.

To support clients with meaningful insights, we offer a Food Emissions Report aligned with WRI’s Coolfood Calculator methodology. This report provides customized analysis of the GHG emissions associated with the food served at their locations and helps identify opportunities to collaborate toward shared climate goals.

Our commitment extends beyond carbon reduction to promoting healthier lifestyles. Through menu innovation, consumer engagement and education, community outreach, and employee programs, we empower the people we serve to make informed nutrition and wellness choices. Our comprehensive and integrated approach toward health and wellbeing includes four key elements:

  1. We ENABLE a healthy food environment by providing a broad selection of healthy food and beverages and by clearly communicating relevant nutritional information.
  2. We ENCOURAGE interest in healthy choices through health communication and marketing programs.
  3. We EDUCATE to support informed and empowered consumers by providing actionable, evidence-based nutrition, environmental, and wellness information.
  4. We ENGAGE to build active participation in our wellness programs and to provide insights, ideas, and inspiration on digital and social media platforms.

Shifting to more plant‑forward menus supports human health while reducing emissions, minimizing pressure on land and water resources, promoting animal welfare, and protecting natural habitats. These combined efforts reflect our commitment to delivering food that nourishes people and supports a more sustainable future.
