Each June, London marks one of its most iconic traditions called “Trooping the Colour,” the annual official celebration of the birthday of His Majesty King Charles III.
Steeped in centuries of military pageantry, the event brings together the British Army’s Household Division, which is responsible for performing public duties and state ceremonies in London and Windsor, for a celebration and parade that includes mounted regiments, military bands, and a Royal Air Force flyover above Buckingham Palace viewed by members of the Royal Family.
Aramark UK provides catering, logistics, facilities, and other services to members of the British military as part of a 30+-year partnership with the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) and the Ministry of Defence (MOD) UK, whose members are called to duty for the security of the Royal Family, in addition to other responsibilities. In 2023, Aramark UK supported the coronation of King Charles III.

Delivering Service Excellence Across Sites
To prepare for Trooping the Colour this year, the Aramark UK Government Services team began planning in early April to support the military members as they practiced and prepared for their duties, including the expanded service needs and unique demands of one of the UK’s most high‑profile ceremonial periods.
“It was a huge privilege to provide such an important service for our military partners,” said Glyn Ingram, Defence and Judicial Sector Director, Aramark UK. “It was a spectacular event and I know all our team members were proud to be able to play their part."
In the weeks leading up to the main parade, two full‑scale rehearsals—the Major General’s Review and the Colonel’s Review—were held to ensure every detail was executed flawlessly.
Across the three ceremonial weekends, Aramark UK delivered an additional 8,396 meals on top of the standard service requirements. The scale, pace, and complexity of Trooping the Colour demand exceptional coordination, adaptability, and commitment—and this year’s teams delivered on all fronts.
From supporting mounted regiments to ensuring seamless operations during some of the United Kingdom’s most visible national events, Aramark UK once again played a vital role in the success of this historic celebration and supported the mission across three key sites.
Regents Park Barracks
Regents Park Barracks became a critical logistical hub during the ceremonial season. The parade square is transformed into temporary stabling for 60–75 horses and accommodations for 120 personnel from The King’s Troop and Royal Horse Artillery.
Aramark UK’s responsibilities during this period included full cleaning of equine tack (equipment), enhanced catering aligned to early‑morning and late‑evening duties, equine waste management, and additional cleaning support.
Teams met strict timelines to keep rehearsals and ceremonial commitments on track—and received consistent praise for their responsiveness and professionalism.
Hyde Park Barracks
Home to the Blues and Royals and The Lifeguards, Hyde Park Barracks supports the Household Cavalry’s daily duties at Horse Guards Parade. While the regiments are permanently based on site, activity intensifies during the ceremonial season with additional rehearsals and event responsibilities.
Aramark provided expanded catering, tack cleaning, and waste management services while also supporting the State Opening of Parliament, which added further complexity to the schedule. In the days leading up to Trooping the Colour, the team successfully delivered a high‑profile dinner honoring Princess Anne.
Wellington Barracks – London Central Garrison
As the central hub for ceremonial season operations, Wellington Barracks managed a wide range of expanded services, including early breakfasts, late‑night meals, hydration stations, and VIP functions. The State Opening of Parliament required extended hours and overnight shifts, with some Aramark UK team members starting as early as 3:00 a.m.
Despite challenges such as transportation strikes, road closures, and delivery disruptions, Aramark UK teams maintained service continuity and upheld high standards throughout. Feedback from clients at the site—and from Horse Guards—was overwhelmingly positive, including thanks passed on from King Charles III through Major General Bowder, head of London District.
Rising to the Occasion
Across all sites, Aramark teams demonstrated exceptional commitment, flexibility, and professionalism during one of the UK’s most demanding ceremonial periods.
The team’s ability to adapt to changing requirements, maintain high standards, and deliver thousands of additional meals ensured seamless support for military personnel and ceremonial units during this year’s Trooping the Colour, highlighting the vital role Aramark UK plays in sustaining operations behind the scenes and reinforcing the strength of a decades-long partnership with DIO and MOD UK.
