Aramark Spain was selected to operate food and catering services at a new cafeteria at the University Hospital of Melilla, Spain. Serving public guests and healthcare professionals, the new cafeteria opened in early April after Aramark Spain completed a comprehensive refurbishment to create a more modern, functional, and welcoming environment.
“The new cafeteria is a landmark for the city, as Melilla University Hospital is the first and only public hospital in the territory to offer this type of service to visitors and healthcare staff,” said Jaime Thiebaut, President and Managing Director, Aramark Spain.
Melilla is an autonomous city of Spain, located on the north African coast bordering Morocco. Aramark Spain also manages catering services at other locations in Melilla, including educational centers such as La Salle Melilla, as well as three other public schools in the city.
A Space Designed for Hospitality
The new cafeteria has been designed to create an accessible and comfortable environment, focused on improving the daily experiences of patients, visitors, and healthcare professionals working at the hospital.

- An innovative, self-service model to streamline operations and reduce wait times.
- Aramark Spain’s Living Food brand, which emphasizes market-style cuisine and balanced, healthy food offerings
- Daily rotating menus, including various combination plates, sandwiches, breakfasts, and takeaway options.
- Menu alternatives tailored to special diets, allergies, and food intolerances, while also respecting the city’s cultural diversity.
- Digital solutions to enhance the user experience, such as a web app that allows customers to view menu items, access nutritional and allergen information, place takeaway orders, and facilitate payment.
- Sustainability and environmental responsibility components, along with a continuous improvement system that collects user feedback to constantly evolve the service.
Aramark Spain currently employs more than 12,400 people across the country, preparing more than 405,000 meals daily for 1,800 client locations.
