Mealtime is evolving into much more than a routine for seniors—it’s a moment of connection and joy. At five Asbury Communities, Aramark SeniorLIFE+ brought that spirit to life with Korean Bowl pop-up events, serving up bold flavors, cultural flair, and meaningful interactions that turned dining into a shared experience.
Residents had the chance to build their own bowls—selecting from Korean BBQ pork or seared tofu—and topping them with ingredients like kimchi, sesame spinach, and gochujang, all in a lively, street-market–style ambiance.
The interactive setup encouraged residents to collaborate with Aramark chefs, fostering conversation, curiosity, and community. It’s part of a broader approach to reimagine senior dining as joyful, social, and nutritionally rich.
“Dining is no longer just about nutrition—it’s about experience,” said Joe Gorman, President and CEO of Aramark SeniorLIFE+. “We’re creating opportunities for residents to explore new flavors, connect with one another, and feel a sense of excitement and joy around food.”
Why This Matters for Senior Nutrition & Wellbeing
- Encourages social connection: Shared food builds bonds among residents and associates.
- Boosts nutritional intake: Fresh, colorful dishes can lead to an increase in meal-time consumption of essential vitamins and minerals.
- Stimulates appetite & interest: When dining feels like an event, residents are more likely to eat, and enjoy, nutritious meals.
- Addresses a real challenge: In a study of adults 70 and older, nearly 19.5% reported skipping at least one meal regularly, which can contribute to undernutrition.
