During Military Appreciation Month, Aramark Salute Hospitality celebrated the reopening of The Iditarod Dining Facility at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER), Alaska. After a $6 million enhancement project, the revitalized space now serves as a vibrant hub for the base community, offering an elevated culinary experience. The facility is open daily for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late-night service, providing flexibility and convenience.
"We are incredibly proud to unveil the newly renovated Iditarod Dining Facility,” said Gregory Sides, National Account Director for Aramark Salute Hospitality. “This project represents our commitment to providing exceptional dining experiences and fostering a sense of community.”
The upgrades include modernized electrical systems, enhanced infrastructure, and sustainability efforts like a new dishwasher that reduces the need for to-go paper products. The new menu promotes a realm of variety such as signature smashburgers and personalized pizza, to health and wellness options like made-to-order omelets, customized international dishes, protein boxes and other features – all thoughtfully crafted to satisfy every craving.
New dining concepts include:
- Fire & Iron: Crave-worthy grill favorites
- Wrap It Up: House baked breads & wraps for creative sandwiches
- Greenhouse: Seasonally inspired salad ingredients and soups
- The Kitchen: Homestyle comfort – scratch made favorites
"My goal is to help highlight the nutritious and delicious food options available at Iditarod to satisfy our community's diverse needs and to help service members become more aware of the valuable resources and food options available to them on base," said Anne Pinsky, the base dietician.
Pinsky hosts a monthly “Ask the RD Table”, providing samples of the latest restaurant rotation and highlights new, nutrient-dense menu items that promote energy, strength and overall wellbeing. She also serves as a point of contact for service members to learn how to schedule nutrition education classes, one-on-one nutrition sessions, and body composition assessments.
Iditarod Dining Facility welcomes all members of the base community and now serves as a vibrant central hub. In addition to offering outstanding food and service, it hosts a diverse array of events—including official functions, coining ceremonies, birthday celebrations, monthly community and family gatherings, and so much more.
The reopening marks a new chapter for the Iditarod Dining Facility, promising a blend of culinary excellence and community engagement.
