Bagpipes, Drums, and Hospitality: 25 Years Serving the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo

August 28, 2025

Against the dramatic backdrop of Scotland’s Edinburgh Castle—and the rousing sound of bagpipes, drums, and bugles—the Aramark UK Government Services team provided catering and hospitality services to performers from around the world, members of the military, and special guests during the 75th Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

This is the 25th consecutive year Aramark UK has served at the Tattoo, which takes place every August as part of the Edinburgh Festivals. Held this year August 1-23, the event was broadcast to more than 30 countries with a live audience of nearly 220,000.

“We’re proud to have been a part of the Tattoo once again this year, demonstrating our successful and longstanding partnership with the British military and our clients the Defence Infrastructure Organisation,” said Glyn Ingram, Managing Director, Government Services, Aramark UK. “It was an extra honor to host a luncheon for the Lord Provost of Edinburgh and the Princess Royal.”

The 2025 Tattoo: Celebrating 25 Years of Service

The Aramark UK team had the privilege of serving the Royal Military Police, Guard of Honour, Drill Team, and Mass Pipes and Drums every evening at Edinburgh Castle.

At the Redford, Dreghorn, and Glencorse Barracks, Aramark UK held special events for the Scots Band and Scots P&D, and provided catering to performers from around the world, including Switzerland’s Top Secret Drum Corps, the Orchestra of Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the US Air Force Honor Guard Drill Team.

Throughout the duration of this year’s Tattoo, Aramark UK teams provided:

  • 10,528 meals
  • 1,000 goodie bags for performers and refreshments during rehearsals from Aramark UK suppliers, including quintessentially Scottish treats from Tunnock's
  • 12 Royal Gallery buffets
  • 11 Salute Takers dinners

Fun Fact

The word “Tattoo,” in relation to the military, was inspired
by a 17th-century Dutch phrase, “doe den tap toe,” meaning
“turn off the tap”—a signal for soldiers to return to barracks.
