Aramark Correctional Services Celebrates First IN2WORK Graduation in a Program Dedicated to Alternative Sentencing

July 31, 2025

Fairfax, VA (August 1, 2025) —Aramark Correctional Services celebrated the graduation of the first IN2WORK class within a diversion program in July. Ten participants from the Mental Health Docket in Fairfax County, VA, successfully completed Phase 3 of the program plan, earning their ServSafe certifications and taking formal steps toward employment and stability.

This marks the first time the Aramark IN2WORK program—traditionally offered within correctional facilities—has been integrated into a diversion setting. The initiative is designed to provide individuals with mental health challenges an alternative to incarceration, equipping them with job-ready skills and a sense of purpose.

"Teaching food safety through a diversion program has been a rewarding part of my day. It’s not just about safe food practices and earning the ServSafe certificate—it’s about giving people the tools and confidence to make better choices for themselves and their communities,” said Kristin Sanseverino, Aramark Correctional Services Food Service Director and IN2WORK instructor.

All ten graduates are now exploring employment opportunities with Aramark and other second chance employers with support from the company’s Workforce Development Manager. Each participant is receiving one-on-one guidance in resume building and job placement.

The graduation ceremony was held in the Fairfax County courtroom, where The Honorable Judge Zinicola opened the event. He expressed gratitude to Aramark and Sanseverino for bringing the program to his docket.

The event featured a keynote address by Lt. Col. Casey Lingan, Chief Deputy of Administration Services. Sheriff Stacey Kincaid was recognized for her leadership in creating the county’s diversion dockets, including the Mental Health, Drug Court, and Veterans Dockets. Michelle Cowherd, Mental Health Docket Coordinator, was also acknowledged for her role in coordinating the program and supporting participants throughout their journey.

Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed refreshments and desserts prepared by IN2WORK students from the Fairfax Adult Detention Center, showcasing the culinary skills developed through the program.

Looking ahead, Fairfax County plans to expand the IN2WORK Diversion Program to include the Drug Court and Veterans Dockets, continuing its commitment to rehabilitation, dignity, and second chances.
