Sustainability Takes Center Stage at Rock Concert in Germany

October 2, 2024

Premiere sports and event caterer Gastro Team Bremen (GTB), a subsidiary of Aramark Germany, not only served 150,000 fans at a rock concert in Berlin last month, but also raised the bar on environmental sustainability for events of this size.

In coordination with the Labor Tempelhof* project, which explores sustainable and limate-positive ways to host large-scale events, GTB considered and implemented sustainable solutions in many aspects of their food and beverage service at the event, including:

  • 100% vegetarian and vegan food
  • Reusable crockery, cutlery, and cups for both for the fans and backstage
  • Compostable napkins and minimized single-use packaging
  • 100% renewable electricity and e-mobility from energy supply to on-site mobility
  • Food rescue to reduce waste in cooperation with a food sharing initiative
  • More than 1,000 compostable, plastic-free forks made as part of an innovative trial

“We believe this is the most sustainable major event that the German event industry has offered to date,” said Arnd Rune Thomas, CEO, Aramark Germany. “Together with our partners, we put the green future center stage and are proud to have thought about the environment every step of the way.”
