Aramark Healthcare+ has launched a groundbreaking new store at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital, powered by Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology. This innovative store, located near the main café dining area, offers fresh and healthy food options for caregivers and staff 24 hours a day and enables an effortless shopping experience.
This marks the first Texas hospital to implement Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology and the second fully autonomous micro market within Houston Methodist. The 150-square-foot store provides a variety of convenience snacks, beverages, healthy options, and microwaveable frozen meals.
David Hanson, Vice President of Operations at Aramark Healthcare+, expressed excitement about the launch.

Designed to be a seamless shopping experience, guests enter by swiping their credit card at the entry gate. The technology tracks items taken from or returned to the shelves, creating a virtual shopping session. Upon completing shopping, guests can leave without waiting in line, and the chosen payment method is automatically charged.
The new store transforms a previously underutilized space, originally designed for soiled tray return, into a convenient access point for hospital employees and caregivers at any time of day.

Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology leverages advanced artificial intelligence, including computer vision and deep learning techniques, to accurately identify items taken by shoppers. Amazon developed synthetic datasets to simulate millions of shopping scenarios, ensuring accuracy in various store formats and conditions.
