Aramark Destinations Expands Portfolio with Addition of Historic U.S. Attractions

May 17, 2024

Aramark Destinations recently expanded its portfolio by acquiring four iconic attractions in the U.S. The new additions further position Aramark Destinations as a leader in hospitality and tourism, offering outdoor enthusiasts more experiences that blend history, natural beauty, and cultural exploration.

Among the acquired businesses are Charleston, South Carolina’s Fort Sumter Tours, SpiritLine Cruises, and Gray Line of Charleston which provide a range of activities from the storied wall of Fort Sumter, where the American Civil War began, to the scenic cruise excursions along Charleston’s historic waterfront.

In addition, Bushkill Falls—known as the “Niagara of Pennsylvania”— located in Bushkill, Pennsylvania, has been added to the portfolio and offers visitors breathtaking views.

Whether  you’re tracing the footsteps of history or marveling at cascading waterfalls, Aramark Destinations promises an adventure that transcends time and place.

Charleston

In December 2023, Aramark Destinations signed an agreement with the Campsen family to acquire Fort Sumter Tours, SpiritLine Cruises, and Gray Line of Charleston. As the new operator, Aramark Destinations continues to provide a world-class hospitality experience on the Charleston Harbor with sunset dinner cruises, ferry service, sightseeing tours, and private charters.

Fort Sumter

Fort Sumter is a historic and scenic destination at the entrance of Charleston Harbor which was created after British forces captured and occupied Washington during the War of 1812. The fort was created to protect American harbors from naval invasion and holds historical significance as the site of the first battle of the American Civil War. Located in Charleston Harbor, guests can only access Fort Sumter by ferry rides.

“Charleston is a beautiful, historical destination that offers a variety of different experiences. Both Aramark and the Campsen family share a passion for hospitality and national park and destination stewardship, which made it a natural transition,” said Ian Harris, Fort Sumter General Manager.

SpiritLine Cruises

If  you're looking for a fun and relaxing way to explore the beautiful city of Charleston, look no further than SpiritLine Cruises. Whether you want to enjoy a scenic harbor tour, dolphin watching, a romantic dinner cruise, or a private charter for your special occasion, SpiritLine Cruises has something for everyone. Visitors get to see the historic landmarks of Fort Sumter, the stunning skyline, and the wildlife of the Lowcountry from a comfortable and spacious vessel.

Gray Line of Charleston

Gray Line of Charleston, a 25-seat minibus designed to traverse downtown Charleston’s narrow historic streets, offers an informative and entertaining day trip around Charleston’s historic district with a variety of tour options including a Charleston Museum Tour; Boone Hall Plantation Tour; and Magnolia Plantation Tour.

Bushkill Falls

Bushkill Falls, located in Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains, was first opened to the public in 1904 by Charles E. Peters. Aramark Destinations has been the operator of Bushkill Falls on behalf of the Charles E. Peters Estate since 1995, and since acquiring the business in late 2023, will continue to provide world-class hospitality service, food and beverage delights, outdoor hiking adventures, and family activities for thousands of visitors who want to experience the wonder of the falls and the Poconos region.

Visitors can enjoy family-friendly activities including fishing, hiking, bird watching, and mining for gemstones. Guests can purchase a bag of “mining rough” and uncover all sorts of gems, an engaging and educational activity for children of all ages.

“We look forward to continuing our local partnership with Bushkill Falls and enhancing the guest experience with future upgrades, all while preserving the land and recreational access for generations to come,” said Donna Smith, Bushkill Falls General Manager.
