November is National Veterans and Military Families Month in the U.S., a time to honor the service, sacrifice, and commitment of military members, their families, and veterans everywhere.
Aramark proudly hires and employs active service members, veterans, and military spouses across a range of roles and positions throughout the company.
To promote an environment in which the military community of employees feels valued, empowered, and equipped to succeed, Aramark supports an employee resource group (ERG) called Salute.
“Our veteran employees are a valued and important portion of our workforce, and their contributions are invaluable to Aramark’s success,” said Barbara Flanagan, President and CEO, Aramark Student Nutrition, and Executive Sponsor of Salute ERG, in a Veterans’ Day message to the organization November 11th. “I offer my gratitude to all those who serve, have served, or have supported a loved one who has served in the military. We salute your service and your sacrifice.”
Military Care Packages
Recently, members of Salute ERG joined Salute Hospitality, a division of Workplace Experience Group dedicated to serving government and defense personnel, and other Aramark team members in the Dallas area to create care packages for frontline military personnel.
Team members volunteered their time to pack about 750 boxes with items such as snacks, toiletries, and notes of thanks and encouragement that were then shipped globally to active service members.
Hiring Our Heroes
Aramark partners with several organizations and networks to help attract, hire, and engage military-connected team members with a passion for service.
To provide those team members with the right tools, resources and connections to successfully transition from military to civilian life, Aramark partners with Hiring Our Heroes, an organization which has worked to create meaningful employment opportunities for transitioning service members, veterans, and military spouses since 2011.
As part of the corporate partnership with Hiring Our Heroes, Aramark provides access to participation in a 12-week Corporate Fellowship Program and attends more than 30 virtual and in-person hiring events nationwide in coordination with Salute ERG.
For Aramark’s commitment to attracting, hiring, and supporting military members, veterans, and their families, the company received the 2024 Hiring Our Heroes Award from Instawork, a jobs app and digital marketplace.
Wreaths Across America
In December, team members from Salute ERG, Aramark Community Relations, and local Star Teams will once again support the efforts of nonprofit Wreaths Across America.
Aramark volunteers will place wreaths on the graves of veterans laid to rest in Chicago; Dallas; Indianapolis; Minneapolis; Madison, TN; Carrboro, NC; Tallahassee, FL; and Valley Forge, PA.
