The Drop: When Hunger Hits, College Students Tap the App

August 20, 2023

According to industry research, 61% of consumers order takeout or delivery at least once per week. On college and university campuses, students’ increased use of mobile ordering and delivery platforms continue to redefine expectations for variety and “on-demand” convenience.

To meet the evolving needs of students, faculty, staff, and guests, Aramark Collegiate Hospitality has created a new virtual dining innovation called The Drop, a mobile platform that allows contactless, digital-only ordering and payment for pick-up or delivery.

“The Drop uses existing kitchen space, equipment, and staff members to offer new brands and menu items on a college campus,” said Karen Parker, Chief Marketing Officer, Aramark Collegiate Hospitality. “It’s a great way to provide variety and continue to deliver great food and great experiences to our customers.”

Through The Drop’s easy-to-use interface, guests choose from several menu categories that are most popular on campus, such as burgers, chicken, sandwiches, and authentic ethnic cuisine.

Then, based on performance and market trends, Aramark Collegiate Hospitality team members add or remove brands and menu concepts from The Drop over time.

Several design options are available, ranging from a simple pick-up window to a complete dining concept. Each can be used as designed—or customized to a specific client’s needs.

Approximately 20 campuses will offer The Drop to students this fall.
