The Aramark Facilities management team at Minute Maid Park, home of the Houston Astros, is preparing to host the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday, October 28, for Game 1 of the 2022 World Series presented by Capital One. Minute Maid Park houses 40,963 seats and nine separate seating areas for game view, and is home to a variety of Houston food favorites (Minute Maid Park Information).
To keep the stadium in prime shape for the thousands of fans who will cheer on their teams during the World Series, the Aramark Facilities team will clean 1,263,240 square feet of space before and after each game. Irma Hernandez, District Manager for Facility Services at Minute Maid Park, will help lead a team of dedicated professionals during the World Series, and shared interesting facts about the work they will do, the materials needed, and Aramark’s commitment to recycling and waste diversion:
·One Aramark attendant will staff every restroom throughout the ballpark during the World Series games.
·10% of game day waste is diverted from landfills. This is done through the separation of containers and separating cardboard from waste.
·Each Aramark manager walks an average of 10 to 12 miles per game.
·17 tons of trash are recycled after each game.
·28 tons of waste is handled during every game.
·185 associates will spend eight hours each, cleaning the ballpark after the game.
·Five associates and one manager will spend eight hours cleaning both Clubhouses.
·It takes a total of 293 people to clean the entire stadium after each game and prepare for the next.
·Minute Maid Park will utilize about 4,800 trash can liners to pick up trash, empty trashcans during the game, and complete overnight cleaning.
·8,115 ounces of hand soap will be used at each game.
·420,000 feet of paper towels will be used at each game.
·900,000 feet of toilet paper will be used at each game.
Marcus Domino, Aramark’s Director of Facilities at Minute Maid Park, has worked in many fields including restaurant and catering, and now Facilities. Domino shared additional behind-the-scenes insight. For example, single stream waste bins are used throughout the stadium, with one side for recyclable products and the other side for trash. There is also a separate compactor for recycling, to ensure fans have the option to do so.
Marcus and the team are incredibly good at their jobs and work together to get the ballpark in the best shape it can be. “I remember leaving a catering job at the stadium once and thought about how messy it was after a ball game. When I returned the next day, the grounds were spotless. Now, I know the Aramark team members are the ones to thank for that,” he said. Preparing for the World Series is no easy task, but to see it come to fruition is an amazing feeling, he explains, “The day before the game, the stadium is filled with media, their gear, extra generators, and satellite trucks. The Facilities team's job is to make sure everything is in the right spot, and everyone stays safe. That is our top priority.”
"Our job is to make sure everyone has a great experience,” he says. “The stadium needs to be ready so people of all ages can enjoy the baseball game.”
