In honor of Nutrition Month, Karlee Kerchersky Karlee Kerchersky FPC, takes us through her world in the Wellness Center. She shares her tips and tricks to staying active as the season change and how employees and students can get involved.

Karlee teaches group exercise classes, creates custom workout programs, assists with wellness events, and fitness assessments.

As the seasons change, can you give three tips on how to stay on track with wellness?

One of the best things to do as the weather gets warm is get outside and walk! Sunlight has so many benefits. Sunlight helps us produce Vitamin D which increases bone and muscle health, regulates your immune system, and on top of that sunlight helps increase quality of sleep and is a mood booster. Steps indoor or outdoor keeps us moving and active especially the days we may not have time to hit the gym, and it is low impact so it is great if you are looking for a workout that doesn’t have you feeling completely worn out. In the Wellness Center at Aramark Headquarters, we offer classes that are great for trying new workouts and even building a community in your fitness world. Support in a group class is amazing, everyone is there for the same reason and the added support is always helpful! Finally, increase your hydration! Besides keeping us hydrated and keeping us glowing from the inside and out, water helps transport nutrients throughout the body, regulates our body temperature, and aids in digestion.

What is your favorite way to move your body and stay active?

Personally, I love to strength train and go for walks. I always joke I love to pick heavy stuff up and put it down. It helps me stay really strong in my everyday activities and builds confidence, and is a huge mental release for me. I also love to walk either outside or on the treadmill. If I am on the treadmill I like to add in hills to increase the use of muscles throughout my entire body especially my core and lower body.

What do you suggest for someone who doesn’t have a lot of time, but still wants to stay active?

Increase your steps any chance you get! Park farther, take the stairs, take laps around your home or office during your break from your computer. At your desk try adding stretches in a standing or seated position and mini workouts.

1. Touch your toes while standing.

2. Squats from standing to your chair.

3. Make a fist in each hand and punching both arms toward the ceiling and then lowering them back down to the front of your shoulders to simulate an overhead press.

What group fitness classes are offered and how can people sign up?

We offer mobility classes, yoga, strength, bootcamp, cycle, cycle and strength, back to basics (beginner class), interval style (timed sets/EMOM/AMRAPS), body weight, and walking classes on the treadmill. Class time ranges from 15 minutes to 45 minutes.

Once you become a member you are able to register for class via our website, Club Automation, or using our app, AramarkWC, which can be found on google play or the apple app store. On each route there is an option for group fitness and you can register there to take class.
