One day each year, we come together for our annual global day of service, Aramark Building Community Day, demonstrating this year round commitment to enriching and nourishing lives. This year, on September 20, thousands of our employees will volunteer together to help families and communities succeed.
We recognize and highlight the volunteer accomplishments of our associates. Through the Aramark Service Star Volunteer Awards, we’ve recognized and honored more than 400 employee volunteers since 2008.
We also make it easy for our associates to find company and community volunteer opportunities with a dedicated employee volunteer web portal that allows them to sign up for projects, recruit colleagues, track volunteer hours and apply for matching gifts for charitable donations.

Through her dedication to helping others, Ellen is an inspiration to her team and in the community. Whether greeting returning soldiers at the airport or placing wreathes for fallen soldiers in Arlington, joining disaster efforts during hurricanes and 9/11 through the American Red Cross, or supporting cancer organizations, Ellen’s capacity for compassion knows no bounds.
With over 10 years at Aramark, Ellen’s passion to give back is championed by our steadfast belief in corporate responsibility. “Working for a company that allows me to give back to someone else, to make a difference in the community where I work and live—I wouldn’t want to be working anywhere else,” Ellen states.
Supported by her GM and team, she regularly volunteers at Paul’s Place, a catalyst and leader for change in the Baltimore community. The center provides basic services, such as hot meals and showers, and extensive case management, including housing assistance, job placement, and literacy courses. Ellen is passionate about the Paul's Place mission and believes in building self-esteem by providing meals with a smile and a healthy portion of dignity and respect. During Aramark’s Building Community Day 2017, Ellen led a team of employee volunteers at Paul’s Place. The volunteers assembled workforce readiness kits and also hosted soft-skill training workshops.
Ellen is humble in her cause; she seeks no recognition—simply asks others to open their eyes and hearts so they too can seize opportunities to make a difference.
Aramark Star Teams Connect With Communities
In 25 regions across our country, Aramark Star Teams -- employees who work in various business locations -- regularly come together and engage their local communities to make a difference.
With an expansive network of employees, Aramark’s Star Teams lead Aramark Building Community (ABC), our signature volunteer and philanthropic program, on the local level and help bring together our diverse, cross-functional workforce, to volunteer in their communities, connect with one another, and support new business opportunities while fostering a culture of service.
Each Star Team is led by a leadership team of employee volunteers and is chaired by a member of Aramark’s senior leadership team. The teams include dozens of active and passionate employees from across our businesses in each region. These teams use their unique skills to help guide, advocate and motivate employees to get involved and support their local community organizations -- addressing the specific challenges and needs of local communities in the areas of health and wellness and workforce education.
For more than a decade, our Star Teams have established strong partnerships in communities and served as our primary community involvement channels. Through their unified efforts, the Star Teams champion Aramark’s values and commitments all over the U.S.
