Aramark’s strategy for sustainability encompasses ambitious plans to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, a commitment to report transparently on progress, and a resolve to work together with clients, consumers, and suppliers to implement and innovate initiatives and programs to drive progress and results.
Consistent with those commitments, Aramark has now secured Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi)-validated global GHG reduction targets, including near-term targets to significantly reduce emissions in direct operations and supply chain and a commitment to reach net-zero GHG emissions across the enterprise by 2050.
Science-based targets guide companies on how much and how quickly they need to reduce GHG emissions in line with the latest climate science. Read more about Aramark’s near-term and net-zero validated science-based targets.
“Aramark is committed to delivering a sustainability strategy that follows the science, meets the expectations of our stakeholders, and delivers on our Be Well. Do Well. plan,” said Alan Horowitz, Vice President - Sustainability, Aramark. “Our validated science-based targets represent an additional, significant step toward our sustainability goals.”
The new science-based targets raise Aramark’s ambition on climate while complementing existing company commitments such as the Coolfood Pledge. Last year, Aramark became the first food service provider in the U.S. to sign the pledge and commit to reduce emissions from food, the company’s largest source of emissions, by 25% by 2030 in the U.S.
In pursuit of this goal, Aramark is partnering with the World Resources Institute on the certification of low-carbon and nutritious Coolfood meals, over 1000 of which—and counting—are being offered across Aramark client locations.
Achieving Aramark’s climate goals and targets will require absolute reductions across all sources of emissions. Aramark discloses annual GHG goals and measurements through its Be Well. Do Well. Progress Report and the company’s annual response to CDP’s Climate Change and Forests questionnaires.
