Regan Henry, Aramark registered dietitian nutritionist with Aramark Collegiate Hospitality at South Carolina’s College of Charleston, was recently a guest on the college’s podcast series.
In the episode, “Fuel for the Future: Tips on Healthy Eating and Solutions to Food Insecurity,” Henry offered expert ways to adopt healthier and more sustainable eating habits—and touched on a troubling and often misunderstood trend on university campuses: Food insecurity.

More About Food Insecurity on Campus
Did you know?
- At four-year colleges, 29% of students reported experiencing food insecurity (#RealCollege 2021).
- Among students facing basic needs insecurity, only 18% received SNAP benefits; 52% did not apply for support because they did not know how.
- Students facing food insecurity report high stress levels, lack of focus in class, trouble studying, poor sleep quality, lower GPAs, low energy, and mental and physical health issues.
Aramark is working to address food insecurity from several angles, including supporting legislation; applying to become campus-specific SNAP retail locations; leading food recovery efforts; fostering collaborative dialogue with students, universities, and organizations including community nonprofits; and building strategic partnerships to address food insecurity.
Currently, Aramark collaborates with Swipe Out Hunger, Food Recovery Network, Hope Center, and Sharing Excess. In addition, the Aramark Building Community program works to benefit people in the local communities in which Aramark employees live and work throughout the world.
